Beaubassin-est announces the Merit Awards winners during the 6th Anniversary Celebration

More than two hundred people were at the 6th Anniversary Celebration of the Beaubassin-est Rural Community on Wednesday July 25th and they had the opportunity to meet the members of the new Municipal Council. Mayor Maryse LeBlanc took the opportunity to thank the members of the previous Council, and she presented the Beaubassin-est Merit and Youth Awards.
The artist Monette Léger was there to present one of her creations to former Mayor Ola Drisdelle. The portrait shows Mr. Drisdelle surrounded by images related to his realisations at the head of Beaubassin-est. Councillors Jean-Albert Cormier, Paul-Hubert Cormier, James LeBlanc and Roger Léger received a certificate and a little gift of appreciation for their involvement in the municipality.
The Beaubassin-est Merit and Youth Awards recognize achievements in six categories and this year’s awards were presented to:
-          Arts & Culture - Leontine Léger-Cormier, Trois-Ruisseaux, painting;
-          Business – Dango Inc., Cormier-Village, owner Allain Léger, seafood broker / transport logistics;
-          Community Leadership – Edgar LeBlanc, Grand-Barachois, volunteer at the Shediac Golden Age Club;
-          Environment – Community Pride Committee in Saint-André-LeBlanc, Adopt a Highway
-          Sport, Recreation and Active Living – Philippe and Jean-Louis Gagnon, Grand-Barachois, Gagnon Lake outoor skating rink;
-          Volunteer Service – Rhéal LeBlanc, Haute-Aboujagane, Vestiaire St-Joseph and Knights of Columbus;
-          Youth Award – Jérôme Grant, Boudreau-Ouest, International karate competition in Japan.
The municipality also had a draw amongst the first 100 people who "liked" the Beaubassin-est Facebook Page and the winner of the $100 gift card for gasoline is Christine Sivret. We invite you to continue "liking" our page because there could be other contests.
The party included a free BBQ, anniversary cake, an inflatable game for the kids, face painting and cotton candy. Also, four talented students from the Jocelyne Bourque violin and clogging School entertained the crowd during the party.
